Riley Sutton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Railee Winter made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Cape Fear Christian Academy is still undefeated this season after their matchup against Halifax Academy on Thursday, but Halifax Academy came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Eagles narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Vikings 2-0. The game was the first time the Eagles have beaten the Vikings on their field since May 14, 2021.
The result came thanks to Glenna Mclamb's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, Cape Fear Christian Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kristina Kennedy, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Cape Fear Christian Academy pushed their record up to 8-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Wayne Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wayne Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cape Fear Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Wayne Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Cape Fear Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wayne Christian since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
