Genesee is 1-9 against Lapwai since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Genesee Bulldogs will look to defend their home court against the Lapwai Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. The timing isn't great for Genesee: they have been struggling with nine straight losses at home dating back to last season, while Lapwai has snatched up ten consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season.
Genesee suffered their biggest defeat since December 12, 2023 on Tuesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 69-49 walloping at the hands of Troy. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Genesee in their matchups with Troy: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the defeat, Genesee got a solid performance out of Teak Wareham, who scored 18 points along with five assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wareham has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Seth Vestal, who scored 13 points.
Even though they lost, Genesee smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Lapwai faced Potlatch in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Lapwai came out on top against Potlatch by a score of 57-45 on Saturday.
Lapwai's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kase Wynott, who dropped a triple-double on 16 points, 12 rebounds, and ten assists. Wynott is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Ahlius Yearout was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with five rebounds.
Genesee's defeat dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Lapwai, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's game: Genesee have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.9 threes per game. However, it's not like Lapwai struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 8.5 threes per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Genesee was dealt a bruising 103-25 defeat at the hands of Lapwai in their previous matchup two weeks ago. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Wynott, who shot 5-for-7 from downtown and dropped a triple-double on 47 points, 17 rebounds, and 12 assists.
