Make it four blowout wins for the Springfield Longhorns this season. They really took it to Primero for the full four quarters, racking up a 50-19 win at home. The victory was just what Springfield needed coming off of a 56-27 loss in their prior matchup.
Springfield got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Karina Garcia out in front who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Another player making a difference was Bay Ellis, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Isabela Maldonado and Jocelyn Rivera certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Maldonado scored 11 points along with eight rebounds, while Rivera scored two points. That was a full 57.9% of Primero's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Primero struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Springfield racked up 17 assists.
Springfield's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Primero, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.
Springfield's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Kit Carson at 2:00 p.m. on January 20th. Primero won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Walsenburg at 1:00 p.m. on January 13th. Walsenburg comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
