Laurel took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 46-28 victory over the Surrattsville Hornets. The Spartans pushed the score to 40-20 by the end of the third, a deficit the Hornets cut but never quite recovered from.
A big part of the win came down to the chemistry between Demerius Custis and his top target Nathan Watkins. Custis rushed for 82 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries while Watkins gained 224 total yards and a touchdown.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Laurel was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 256 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.
