Baseball Recap: Tuesday's Loss Ends Mundelein's Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Mundelein unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 8-5 to the Lake Zurich Bears. The Mustangs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bears earlier this season, when they won 9-3.

Joey Kafka was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Caden Earing was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Johnny Weiss, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Mundelein's defeat dropped their record down to 16-6-2. As for Lake Zurich, their record now sits at 14-9.

Mundelein and Lake Zurich should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Mustangs will face off against Highland Park at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank advantage (32 vs. 90). The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Mundelein 3.4, the Giants 3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Lake Zurich (ranked 131st) will meet Grayslake North (ranked 448th) at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.
