There's no place like home for the Tulia Hornets, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Thursday. They strolled past Bovina with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 55-41. Given Tulia's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 357th, while Bovina is ranked 1087th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tulia found their leader in underclassman Zaiden Jalomo, who scored 27 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Jalomo has scored at least 25% of Tulia's points. Nic Carrasco was another key contributor, scoring 4 points along with 6 assists and 4 steals.
Despite the loss, Bovina still got an impressive performance from Miguel Lopez, who scored 14 points. Lopez scored a full 34.1% of Bovina's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Angel Lara, who scored 7 points.
Tulia pushed their record up to 4-2 with that win, which was their third straight at home. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 24.67 points. As for Bovina, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-5.
Tulia will face off against Littlefield at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Littlefield knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully Tulia likes a good challenge. As for Bovina, they will face off against Floydada at 12:00 p.m. on Friday.
