Wells extended their postseason success on Friday against Smith Valley. They put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 16-4 victory. The Leopards might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 22 matches by six runs or more this season.
Cesar Beruman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Beruman was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Wells got a massive performance out of Tristen Zimmerman, who went 3-for-6 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Zimmerman has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Luis Garcia, who went 4-for-5 with three runs and one RBI.
Wells always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .520. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Smith Valley only posted an OBP of .312.
Wells has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 19 of their last 21 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Smith Valley, their defeat ended a 14-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 14-3.
Wells does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Smith Valley, they will square off against Mineral County at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
