Petty, a 6-foot point guard, also piled up 15 assists and 15 steals in the blowout win according to one
social media report.
The scoring outburst broke the school record at Rainier Beach, where current and former NBA players like Marjon Beauchamp, Doug Christie, Jamal Crawford, Dejounte Murray, Kevin Porter Jr., Nate Robinson and Terrance Williams all attended.
Petty is ranked as the No. 114 prospect in the Class of 2025 according to
247Sports. He signed with New Mexico in November over offers from Fresno State, Oklahoma, Pepperdine, San Diego, Stanford, UC Santa Barbara, UNLV and Washington.
After playing at Rainier Beach as a freshman, Petty spent his sophomore and junior seasons at
Auburn (Wash.), where he averaged 22.7 points per contest over 45 games to surpass 1,000 career points with the program.
The future Lobo also had a tremendous club season on the Adidas 3SSB circuit over the summer, averaging 15.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists while shooting 51.7 percent from the field and 40.7 percent from 3-point range for Dream Vision.
Rainier Beach moved to 10-2 on the season after the win and has established itself as one of the teams to beat in Washington. The Vikings lone in-state loss came in the season-opener
against Annie Wright (Tacoma, Wash.) but since then they have
outscored Evergreen State opponents by an average of 40.7 points per contest over seven
games.
Under longtime head coach Mike Bethea, Rainier Beach has won nine state titles in program history with the last coming in 2016.
