If the Dublin Fighting Irish were riding high off their 65-20 takedown of the Jefferson County Warriors on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Dublin took a 49-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of East Laurens on Saturday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Dublin has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Dublin still got an impressive performance from Nahallie Turnley, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds. Turnley has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 17 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ra'nyya Washington, who scored eight points.
East Laurens' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from McKayela Tanner, who scored 17 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. Tanner is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. Deanna Lowther was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Dublin's defeat dropped their record down to 15-5. As for East Laurens, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dublin will take on Toombs County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for East Laurens, East Laurens and Jefferson County will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Jefferson County is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
