The Niles North Vikings have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were the victim of a tough 82-57 loss at the hands of Rockford Auburn on Friday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Rakim Chaney was his usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with nine assists and six rebounds for Rockford Auburn. That's the first time this season that Chaney posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Terry Horton, who scored 16 points.
Niles North's loss dropped their record down to 11-3. As for Rockford Auburn, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season.
Niles North is on the road again on Saturday and play against Westinghouse on January 6th. Westinghouse knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Niles North likes a good challenge. Rockford Auburn won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Hinsdale Central at 5:15 p.m. on December 30, 2023.
