After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Burnet, the Marble Falls Mustangs were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 55-54 win over Jarrell. The victory was all the more spectacular given Marble Falls' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 919th, while Jarrell is ranked 367th).
Marble Falls' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lexie Edwards, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Edwards has scored at least 25% of Marble Falls' points. Another player making a difference was Caitlynn Johnson, who scored 14 points.
Despite the defeat, Jarrell saw an underclassman step up: Aniya Taylor scored 28 points along with six rebounds. The matchup was Taylor's 26th in a row with at least ten points. Lamyre' Fitch was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with three steals.
Marble Falls' win bumped their record up to 5-19. As for Jarrell, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-10.
Marble Falls will head out on the road to face off against Lampasas at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Jarrell, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Lago Vista at 6:30 p.m. Lago Vista is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
