Baseball Recap: Pittsfield Has No Trouble Against Routt Catholic

Pittsfield's game on Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Routt Catholic Rockets as they made off with an 18-10 victory. Considering the Saukees have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Luke Saxe was incredible, firing off three home runs, five runs, and six RBI while going 4-for-5. Those three home runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lane Foster, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Pittsfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Pittsfield's win bumped their record up to 16-8. As for Routt Catholic, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-9 record this season.

Pittsfield and Routt Catholic should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Saukees will challenge Seymour at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (226 vs. 466). Meanwhile, Routt Catholic (ranked 145th) will meet Liberty (ranked 342nd) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
