The La Cueva Bears posted their biggest victory since December 21, 2023 on Saturday. Everything went their way against Del Norte as La Cueva made off with a 74-50 win. Given La Cueva's advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked sixth, while Del Norte is ranked 78th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
La Cueva got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Eric Jacobsen out in front who scored 22 points along with six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Jacobsen scored 15 or more points. Cameron Dyer was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Despite the loss, Del Norte saw an underclassman step up: Julian Castillo scored 22 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Francois Satchivi, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
La Cueva has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Del Norte, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-14.
La Cueva will play host again and welcome West Mesa, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Del Norte, they will head out on the road to take on Bernalillo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
