After flying high against the Bellevue Eagles on Thursday, the Vernon Lions came back down to earth. Vernon fell just short of Mineral Wells by a score of 43-40. Vernon has struggled against Mineral Wells recently, as their game on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Among those leading the charge was Cadence Colwell, who scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aniya Richardson, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Vernon has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-12 record this season. As for Mineral Wells, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-9.
Vernon will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Windthorst at 6:00 p.m. on December 29th. Windthorst presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Vernon in Texas (Windthorst is ranked 185th, while Vernon is ranked 567th). As for Mineral Wells, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Sanger at 12:00 p.m.
