The Pace Patriots will take on the North Bay Haven Academy Buccaneers in a tournament on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Pace is headed into the contest with an undefeated record on the line, something Gulf Shores almost spoiled on Tuesday. The Patriots' pitcher stepped up to hand the Dolphins a 2-0 shutout. Give the Patriots' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Not much got past Hannah DeMarcus, who gave up just a hit and racked up 18 Ks to keep Gulf Shores off the board. DeMarcus has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than 13 strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gracie Ueberroth, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Laila Loomis also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday North Bay Haven Academy's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against Wakulla.
Addison Mallon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, North Bay Haven Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was McKenzie Goff, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Pace's record is now 5-0. As for North Bay Haven Academy, their record now sits at 4-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Pace has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 14.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like North Bay Haven Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
