Holmes County has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Bethlehem Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Holmes County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Bethlehem likes a good challenge.
Holmes County pushed their score all the way to 73 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 77-73 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ponce De Leon. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game back in December of 2023 (67), Holmes County still had to take the loss.
Despite the defeat, Holmes County got a solid performance out of Emma Whitaker, who dropped a double-double on 40 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Whitaker has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Savannah Goodman, who scored 17 points.
Meanwhile, Bethlehem scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 52-28 margin over Malone. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Bethlehem.
Bethlehem's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Madison Williams led the charge by scoring 21 points. That's the first time this season that Williams scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bre KImble, who scored 15 points.
Holmes County's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-6. As for Bethlehem, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-8.
Holmes County won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, slipping by Bethlehem 39-38. Does Holmes County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Bethlehem turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
