Housatonic recap November 5, 2013
Brunswick extended the longest winning streak in Housatonic this week by beating Hopkins, 42-14. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Bruins.
Salisbury School was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating Trinity-Pawling. The Crimson Knights came in at 13 in the state poll after placing at number 39 last week.
David Maaghul threw for 360 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Mickoy Nichol was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 203 yards on 26 carries as Avon Old Farms topped the Pride. Parish Simmons also contributed to the rushing game with 45 yards on the ground.
On the heels of Maaghul and Denzel Knight, the Crimson Knights have had great success on offense. Maaghul leads the league in passing with 1,622 yards, while Knight has rushed for 1,286 yards this season. Taft's Alex Huard leads the league in receiving yards with 738 on 40 catches.
The most important game in the league this week will be the match up between Salisbury School and the Beavers. The Crimson Knights enters the game ranked 13th in the state, while Avon Old Farms ranks fifth.
Two of the top teams in Housatonic will go toe-to-toe this week when Kevin Driscoll's team takes on Salisbury School. The Beavers' offense has scored 331 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Crimson Knights have allowed only 142 on the year.
Salisbury School scaled the state rankings by moving to 13 from 39 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Crimson Knights were able to move up by besting Trinity-Pawling 41-34.
