The Marathon Dolphins will face off against the Port St. Joe Tiger Sharks at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Marathon's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Miami Country Day 10-0. The Dolphins haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Roco Piscetello made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Gabriel Leal was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Bryan Broche was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Marathon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Port St. Joe, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Wakulla Christian School with a sharp 15-0 win on Thursday. With that victory, the Tiger Sharks brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.
Like Marathon, Port St. Joe also got a great game from a two-way player: Eli Harris. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Harris was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI.
In other batting news, Port St. Joe let Eli Godwin and Brody Mock run wild. Godwin scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Mock scored three runs while going 2-for-2. Those two hits gave Mock a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Peyton Knox, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Marathon's win bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Port St. Joe, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Marathon has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Port St. Joe struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.4 hits.
