The Macomb Bombers won the last time they faced the Astoria/VIT Rebels, and things went their way on Friday too. Macomb took down the Rebels 50-32. Given Macomb's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 159th, while the Rebels are ranked 619th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Astoria/VIT still got an impressive performance from Ben Sherrod, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kaden Foglesong, who scored ten points.
Macomb is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. As for Astoria/VIT, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 9-14.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Macomb won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Rockets at 5:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Rock Falls knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matches -- so hopefully the Bombers like a good challenge. As for Astoria/VIT, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Cuba/Spoon River Valley is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
