The Danville Warriors will take on the Frankfort Hot Dogs at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Danville is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past North Montgomery 9-2 on Wednesday. The Warriors have beaten the Chargin' Chargers the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Chargin' Chargers has come to flipping the script.
Kole Miller tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Seth Dennison, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Shipley, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Danville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Montgomery only managed five hits.
While Frankfort didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over Southmont on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Hot Dogs, who have now won four matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Lalo Castillo was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Matthew Berry was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base.
The win made it two in a row for Frankfort and bumps their season record up to 6-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Danville, their win bumped their record up to 2-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Danville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Frankfort struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Danville skirted past Frankfort 8-7 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Hot Dogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
