Baseball Recap: Palo Verde Valley Takes a Loss

Ramona hit Palo Verde Valley with a six-run second inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Yellow Jackets fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 11-10. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-3 on Friday.

Drew Wright was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Dominic Rios and Christian Aguilar stepped up to the plate in a big way. Rios went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Aguilar went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Rios has become a key player for Palo Verde Valley: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 12-13-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kole White, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one double.

Palo Verde Valley's loss dropped their record down to 16-14-1. As for Ramona, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 22-7.

While Palo Verde Valley had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
