Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2020 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Will Taylor of
Dutch Fork (Irmo) is the 2020 MaxPreps South Carolina High School Football Player of the Year. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound senior quarterback accounted for 2,685 yards and 32 touchdowns to lead the Silver Foxes to a 10-0 record and fifth consecutive state championship.
In the passing game, Taylor completed 67 percent of his attempts for 2,237 yards and 21 TDs. He ran for another 448 yards and 11 scores.
Taylor's biggest passing game came Oct. 9 when he went 22 of 35 for 335
yards and four touchdowns in a 41-7 win over River Bluff. During a 63-42
victory over Carolina Forest, Taylor exploded for 224 yards rushing and
five touchdowns on just 12 carries.
The Dutch Fork standout signed with Clemson in December but he may not ever set foot on campus. He's the No. 1 baseball recruit in South Carolina and figures to come off the board quickly in June's draft.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released Jan. 29.

Dutch Fork senior quarterback Will Taylor plans to play football and baseball at Clemson starting in the fall.
