Softball Recap: Greenville Snags Seventh Victory in Last Eight Games

Greenville was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Vandalia on Tuesday. The Comets blew past the Vandals 17-3. The Comets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Payton White made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Greenville got a massive performance out of Haylee Clark, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ramzi Stefanisin, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Greenville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .532. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vandalia only posted an OBP of .344.

Greenville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Vandalia, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Greenville will take on rival Gillespie at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Comets 2, the Miners 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Vandalia is set to challenge their familiar foe Hillsboro at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
