There's no place like home for the Atlanta Classical Academy Cavaliers, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top against Southwest Atlanta Christian by a score of 67-58 on Friday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Miller McGowan continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 32 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. McGowan is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Owen McGowan, who scored 17 points along with four steals.
Despite the defeat, Southwest Atlanta Christian had strong showings from Talyn Harris, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, and Jabari Burleson, who scored 13 points along with four steals. That's the first time this season that Harris pulled down eight or more rebounds. Chase Wiggins was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 14 rebounds and two steals.
Atlanta Classical Academy's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.6 points per game. As for Southwest Atlanta Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Atlanta Classical Academy will take on W D Mohammed at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. W D Mohammed has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 12. Southwest Atlanta Christian won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Whitefield Academy at 3:30 p.m. on January 20th.
