Baseball Recap: Model Has No Trouble Against Owsley County

Model not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since May 16, 2024 (when they won 16-0). They were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over the Owsley County Owls / Lady Owls. That's more bragging rights for the Patriots, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Matthew Gorbett made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up five earned runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Kayden Wade and Levi Adams did most of the damage at the plate: Wade went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs, while Adams went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Wade has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Cal Hall, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Model always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

The victory made it two in a row for Model and bumps their season record up to 3-9. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games. As for Owsley County, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Model will face off against Jackson County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Owsley County, they will challenge Lee County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
