Basketball Recap: Whiteland's Run of Three Straight Victories Now Over

After flying high against Newport Central Catholic on Friday, Whiteland came back down to earth. The matchup between the Whiteland Warriors and the Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles didn't end well, with the Whiteland Warriors falling 67-52. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Golden Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Whiteland saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Joban Kalkat went 6 for 10 on his way to 15 points. Kalkat is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Gavin Stubbe was another key player, putting up nine points.

Guerin Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bryson Cardinal led the charge by dropping a double-double on 24 points and ten boards. The contest was Cardinal's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Grissom, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 21 points.

Whiteland moved to 5-4 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Guerin Catholic, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2.

Whiteland didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 75-55 loss against New Palestine on the 28th. Guerin Catholic has also already played their next match, a 68-57 win against Silver Creek on the 28th.
