The North Brunswick Scorpions will face off against the Legion Collegiate Academy Lancers on Monday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: North Brunswick has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Legion Collegiate Academy will arrive with four straight victories.
North Brunswick fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against South Brunswick on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 5-4.
North Brunswick saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Thomas Callahan, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Carter Cox was another, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Legion Collegiate Academy came out on top against Buford on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run third inning. The Lancers were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Yellow Jackets. The result was nothing new for the Lancers, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.
Briggs Lee and Charlie Bailey dominated on the mound. Lee pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit, while Bailey tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Lee a new career-high in strikeouts (four).
On the hitting side, DJ Douglas was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Andres Lopez, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Legion Collegiate Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .593. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive matches.
Legion Collegiate Academy's win bumped their record up to 15-8. As for North Brunswick, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. North Brunswick has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Legion Collegiate Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 strikeouts.
