The Canton Tigers had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.4 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Wednesday. They came out on top against Gentry by a score of 41-31. Given Canton's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while Gentry is ranked 97th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Canton found their leader in underclassman Shamira Morton, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Morton has scored at least a third of Canton's points. Another player making a difference was Kylei Rogers, who scored ten points along with six steals.
Canton pushed their record up to 24-3 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Gentry, their loss dropped their record down to 15-11.
Canton will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Holmes County Central at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Holmes County Central will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Canton surely won't give up without a fight. Gentry does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
