The El Dorado Aztecs won the last time they faced the Piedra Vista Panthers, and things went their way on Thursday too. El Dorado came out on top against Piedra Vista by a score of 43-32. The victory was all the more spectacular given El Dorado's disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 526th in Texas, while Piedra Vista is ranked 23rd in New Mexico).
Aryam Gomez was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on ten rebounds and ten steals. Those ten steals set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Guzman, who scored six points.
Despite the loss, Piedra Vista still got an impressive performance from Tyra Holyan, who scored 15 points along with three steals. Holyan scored a full 46.9% of Piedra Vista's points, the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cadalina Coberly, who scored seven points.
El Dorado now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Piedra Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
