Softball Recap: Saluda Takes Down Ranked Ninety Six

Saluda faced Ninety Six in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Tigers were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Wildcats. Considering the Tigers have won 13 matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Miller Martin made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Karen A, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Jayme Sheaffer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

The victory (which was Saluda's fifth in a row) raised their record to 22-4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Ninety Six, they moved to 21-6 with that defeat, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

As of now, neither Saluda nor the Wildcats have any future games scheduled.
