The Lovett Lions pushed their score all the way to 66 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 75-66 hit to the loss column at the hands of McDonough. While losing is never fun, Lovett can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 255th, while McDonough is ranked fourth).
Several Lions players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jack Rees, who scored 21 points along with 7 rebounds. Kingston Whitty was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with 7 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Lovett were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McDonough only posted eight.
McDonough got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Zaiden Greene out in front who went 7 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points and 1 assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Keenan Gray, who scored 18 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
Lovett now has a losing record at 3-4. As for McDonough, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lovett will challenge Woodland at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for McDonough, they will head out on the road to face off against Hampton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hampton is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
