Wiregrass extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to seven on Saturday, dropping them down to 0-5. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 14-13 heartbreaker at the hands of the East Central HomeSchool Patriots. The Kings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.
Colt Crisler was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Crisler was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That run was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Andrew Simmons made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and two stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Bryce Tucker, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI.
As for East Central HomeSchool, their record is now 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since March 6, 2025.
Like Wiregrass, East Central HomeSchool also got a great game from a two-way player: Bennett Segars. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Segars was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, East Central HomeSchool let Micah Smith and Jack Taylor run wild. Smith went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Taylor went 2-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double. Taylor is becoming a predictor of East Central HomeSchool's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Cade Best was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Coming up, Wiregrass will look to defend their home field on Monday against Abbeville Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. As for East Central HomeSchool, they are taking a road trip to square off against Varsity Opponent at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
