The Ontario Jaguars will venture away from home to challenge the Colton Yellowjackets at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Ontario's pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so Colton's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Ontario is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Jurupa Valley on Wednesday. They fell 5-1 to Jurupa Valley. The match marked Ontario's lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Ontario saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Angelina Garcia, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Colton made sure to put some runs up on the board against Miller on Thursday. Colton never let Miller get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. With that win, the Yellowjackets brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Not much got past JASMINE DELAROSA, who gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks to keep Miller off the board. DELAROSA has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, MALEAH JUAREZ and JOCELYN ORNELAS did most of the damage at the plate: JUAREZ went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while ORNELAS went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. VALERIE VARELA was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Colton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
The loss snapped Ontario's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-2 record. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Colton, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-2.
Both Ontario and Colton just can't seem to miss. Ontario has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Colton struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ontario took their win against Colton when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 11-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ontario since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
