The Kettle Run Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 30-29 to James Wood. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Kettle Run in their matchups with the Colonels: they've now lost three in a row.
Kettle Run's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ava Prysock, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and six steals, and Erin Porter who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and five blocks. That was a full 37.9% of Kettle Run's points, marking the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Kettle Run struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as James Wood pulled down 15 offensive rebounds.
James Wood got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Madison Shirley out in front who scored 11 points. Brooklynn Medina was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with four steals.
Kettle Run's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for James Wood, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kettle Run will challenge the Judges at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Handley is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for James Wood, they will head out on the road to take on the Pioneers at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Averaging 50.43 points so far this season, Millbrook's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so the Colonels better be ready for a challenge.
