It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Douglass Astros can now relate to. They lost to Oconee County on the road by a decisive 28-14 margin on Friday. Despite 67 more yards than Oconee County, Douglass couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Despite the defeat, Douglass had strong showings from Antoine Watkins, who rushed for 158 yards while picking up 9.3 yards per carry, and Kenyon Stocker, who picked up 88 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Caiden Wood had a dynamite game for Oconee County, picking up 118 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Titus Watkins, who threw for 179 yards and two touchdowns on only ten passes.
Douglass bumped their record down to 6-5 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 11.7 points per game. As for Oconee County, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-6 record this season.
Douglass does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Oconee County will square off against Lumpkin County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Lumpkin County's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last five matchups.
