Galena hasn't had much luck against Douglas recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Grizzlies will welcome the Tigers at 3:45 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Galena is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Carson, who was ranked 20th at the time (Galena was ranked 23rd). The Grizzlies fell just short of the Senators by a score of 15-13 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Grizzlies have suffered against the Senators since May 12, 2022.
Taylor Cunningham stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Fast, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Meanwhile, Douglas waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Huskies a 14-0 shutout. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Annie Hill, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Marissa McLelland was another key player, scoring three runs while going 4-for-4.
Douglas was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in eight consecutive games.
Douglas' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Galena, their loss dropped their record down to 7-12-1.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Galena hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like Douglas struggles in that department as they've averaged .381. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Galena suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Douglas in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Grizzlies have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
