Shamokin Area is 8-2 against Selinsgrove since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Indians will square off against the Seals at 4:30 p.m. Shamokin Area is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Shamokin Area made easy work of Lewisburg and carried off a 16-6 win. The victory continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Green Dragons: they've now won four in a row.
ALIANA BRIGHTBILL was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. BRIGHTBILL was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, AVA HUGHES was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one triple. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024. AUTUMN KEHLER was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double.
Shamokin Area kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.6.
Meanwhile, Selinsgrove was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 19-7 to Danville.
Peyton Yerger made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Alyvia Herrold, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Shamokin Area's record now sits at 4-7. As for Selinsgrove, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 4-7.
Everything went Shamokin Area's way against Selinsgrove in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Shamokin Area made off with a 17-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
