The Tri County Trojans's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Sterling Jets on February 9th. Hopefully Tri County is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Sterling in Nebraska (Tri County is ranked 35th, while Sterling is ranked 270th).
Tri County fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Johnson-Brock on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 38-35.
Despite their loss, Tri County saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Drew Siems, who scored 11 points, was perhaps the best of all. Tayden Gronemeyer was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Sterling was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 38-32 to Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer. Sterling has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The losing side was boosted by Colin Wambold, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Tri County's record now sits at 15-4. Sterling's record is now 2-15.
Everything came up roses for Tri County against Sterling when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 66-38 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Tri County since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
