The Middletown Middies struggled with assists on Wednesday (the Mason Comets had ten more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Middletown was dealt a 63-36 defeat at the hands of Mason. While losing is never fun, Middletown can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 444th, while Mason is ranked 47th).
Despite the loss, Middletown still got an impressive performance from Leila Johnson, who scored four points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jamia Jones, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mason to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jazmyn Johnson, who scored 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. Madison Parrish was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Middletown and nudges their season record down to 3-6. As for Mason, they pushed their record up to 6-2 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Middletown will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Monroe at 4:30 p.m. on December 29th. As for Mason, they will face off against Bellbrook at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Bellbrook is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
