The Pomona Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their seventh straight loss. They took a 61-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Prairie View. Pomona lost against Prairie View in their previous head to head back in January of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 53-50 score last time.
Pomona lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Joshua James, who scored 15 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. The game was James' ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dj Hawkins, who scored 11 points along with five assists.
Even though they lost, Pomona were working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Javon Brewton, who scored 23 points for Prairie View. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Brewton has scored at least 25% of Prairie View's points. Alonzo Arias was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds.
Pomona's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Prairie View, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Pomona and Lakewood will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 7:30 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Hopefully Lakewood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 36 on Thursday. Prairie View will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Poudre at 3:00 p.m. on January 6, 2024.
