Brookfield Academy is 1-9 against Lake Country Lutheran since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Blue Knights will be playing at home against the Lightning at 4:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Brookfield Academy took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They blew past St. Francis 11-1. The Blue Knights haven't had any issues with the Mariners recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Makenna Best made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Best was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Riley Bodor and Lila Mason did most of the damage at the plate: Bodor scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4, while Mason scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave Bodor a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Olivia Schmidt, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Lake Country Lutheran made easy work of Living Word Lutheran on Tuesday and carried off a 21-6 win.
Like Brookfield Academy, Lake Country Lutheran also got a great game from a two-way player: Ava Budnik. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Budnik was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Lake Country Lutheran let Eden Mueller and Kierstyn Black run wild. Mueller scored five runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances, while Black went 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Katelyn Meulendyke was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances.
Brookfield Academy's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Lake Country Lutheran, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Brookfield Academy suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Lake Country Lutheran in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Blue Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
