St. Ignatius' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Andrew Brobbey led the charge by getting 19 assists and two aces. Brobbey has been hot for a while, having posted 19 or more assists the last 28 times he's played. Brandon Walrod was another key player, getting 12 assists and three aces.
They weren't the only good server: St. Ignatius was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in seven consecutive matchups.
Strongsville not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 3rd (when they won 3-0). They put the hurt on Brunswick with a sharp 3-0 victory.
While Strongsville won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the first set they played. The final score came out to 25-23, 25-12, 25-20.
St. Ignatius better keep an eye on Anthony Pinzone. He was instrumental in Strongsville's win, getting five digs and two aces. That's the most aces Pinzone has posted since back in March. Hunter Roehrborn also deserves some recognition as he served his first ace of the season.
St. Ignatius' record is now 15-3. As for Strongsville, their record now sits at 8-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Monday's game: St. Ignatius has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 10.1 aces per game. However, it's not like Strongsville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.9 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
St. Ignatius took their win against Strongsville in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
