Sunny Hills managed to keep up with Sonora until halftime, but things quickly went downhill from there. Sunny Hills might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Sonora an easy 63-40 win. Sunny Hills has struggled against Sonora recently, as their matchup on Thursday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Sunny Hills' loss came about despite a quality game from Kingsley Ashley, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. Justin Shim was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Meanwhile, the third road matchup was the charm for Basic, as they earned their first road win of the season. They came out on top against Franklin by a score of 47-36 on Saturday. Basic's offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
Basic can attribute much of their success to Saiah Minnis, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds, and Ja'Mari Cottingham, who scored 16 points. Cottingham also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Christian Baltierrez, who scored six points.
Sunny Hills' loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-4. As for Basic, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Sunny Hills hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 57.6 points per game.
