The Clay Blue Devils will face off against the Montverde Academy Eagles at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Clay's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Montverde Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Friday just wasn't the day for Clay's offense. They fell just short of The Master's Academy by a score of 1-0 on Friday. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Blue Devils were not able to get on the board.
Clay saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lukas Moore, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, Montverde Academy came tearing into Friday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 9-6.
Andres Morillo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Morillo was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Max Irving, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Odanyx Ofarril was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Montverde Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2025.
Montverde Academy's record now sits at 5-1. As for Clay, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Clay has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Montverde Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
