Basketball Recap: Gianna Blanco's Big Game Can't Quite Lead King over Alice

King played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 56-34 to the Alice Coyotes. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 964th, while the Coyotes are ranked 353rd).

King lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Gianna Blanco, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 15 points and five boards. That's the most rebounds Blanco has posted since back in December of 2024. Janiya Heard was another key player, putting up no points and ten blocks.

King has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-25 record this season. As for Alice, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 23-11.

King is taking a road trip to face off against Flour Bluff at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Alice, they will take on Corpus Christi Moody at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Alice is on a six-game streak of home wins, Corpus Christi Moody a seven-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
