Las Animas is 1-7 against Springfield since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Las Animas Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Springfield Longhorns at 7:00 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Friday, Las Animas had to suffer through a rough 54-14 loss at the hands of Swink.
Despite the defeat, Las Animas saw an underclassman step up: Orion Martinez rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown. Martinez was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 53 yards.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 46 points the game before, Springfield were a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They were dealt a 44-8 loss at the hands of McClave. Springfield was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-0.
Las Animas' defeat was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-7. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 7.8 points per game. As for Springfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
Las Animas lost to Springfield on the road by a decisive 38-20 margin when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Can Las Animas avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
