Video: Jordan Lolohea's highlights vs. De La Salle
Watch the Leopards' defensive end in their 23-21 win over the California powerhouse.
Seeing Bingham and East dominate other Utah high school football teams is a familiar scenario. What has changed this season is the fact that both the Miners and the Leopards are making a huge splash on a national scale.
Both Bingham and East have claimed spots in this week's MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Football Rankings. The Miners check in at no. 19 and the Leopards are ranked no.24. Their respective rankings are a bit lower in the MaxPreps National Computer Rankings. Here, Bingham is ranked 27th overall and East checks in at 39th overall.
Each team is ranked more than one hundred spots higher than the next closest team, Lone Peak, in MaxPreps' Utah state rankings. What has set Bingham and East apart? Simply put, both teams are overwhelming their opponents in every phase of the game.
Bingham (7-0) possess both the top scoring offense and top scoring defense among Class 5A teams. The Miners are averaging 46.1 points per game while allowing just 9.1 points per contest. Dating back to the start of the 2010 season, Bingham has shut out 28 opponents and has had 10 total games decided by less than 10 points.
Langi Tuifua and Daniel Loua, in particular, have made an impact on the stat sheet for Bingham. Tuifua has eight sacks to rank second among all Class 5A players in that category. Loua is tied for 3rd in Class 5A with three interceptions.
East (7-0) boasts the state's no. 1 scoring offense. The Leopards average 49.3 points per game while limiting opponents to 15.6 points per contest. They have won 16 straight games over other Utah teams, with an average winning margin of 33 points per game.
Jaylen Warren is the engine that makes East's offense go. Warren, the state's leading rusher, is within striking distance of eclipsing 2,000 rushing yards after churning out more than 200 yards in each of his last four games. On the other side of the ball, Jordan Lolohea and Fusi Teisina have combined for 22 sacks to give the Leopards an imposing defensive line.
