After flying high against the Classical Prep Lions on Tuesday, the Brandon Academy Scorpions came back down to earth. Brandon Academy fell just short of Ruskin Christian by a score of 48-45. While losing is never fun, Brandon Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 487th, while Ruskin Christian is ranked 81st).
Brandon Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Shavon Birch, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds, and Jeremiah McNeely who scored 12 points. The contest was Birch's third in a row with at least ten points.
Brandon Academy bumped their record down to 1-4 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Ruskin Christian, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
Brandon Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Bayshore Christian at 6:00 p.m. on December 8th. Bayshore Christian is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak. As for Ruskin Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Carrollwood Day at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Carrollwood Day focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Thursday.
