The Big Valley Cardinals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their sixth straight loss. They fell 62-54 to Plumas Charter. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Big Valley of the 59-34 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
Big Valley's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josue Barba, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. Leif Lewis was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five rebounds.
Plumas Charter's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Owen Joseph led the charge by scoring 11 points along with two steals. Joseph hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Dalton Bentz, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds.
Big Valley has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Plumas Charter, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Big Valley won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. Dunsmuir is no doubt hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses. As for Plumas Charter, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Cougars at 6:00 p.m.
