The Syracuse Titans will challenge the Layton Lancers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Syracuse is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
Syracuse is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Davis, who was ranked 14th at the time (Syracuse was ranked ninth). The Titans put the hurt on the Darts with a sharp 3-0 win on Tuesday.
The victory didn't come easy: Davis scored at least 18 points in every set. The final score came out to 25-18, 28-26, 25-23.
Among those leading the charge was Ian Sprague, who had 11 digs and two aces.
Meanwhile, Layton came up short against Weber on Tuesday and fell 3-1. The Lancers haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
While Layton had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-21, 18-25, 25-18.
Syracuse's win bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Layton, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's game: Syracuse has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.7 aces per game. However, it's not like Layton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.1 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Syracuse's way against Layton in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Syracuse made off with a 3-0 victory. Will the Titans repeat their success, or do the Lancers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
